nature

Albert Einstein once said, “If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live.”

We all are all guilty of taking nature for granted a little bit. The smallest change in our environment can spell catastrophe for species that we don’t even realise we rely on. Here at Monton Sports Club we try our best to maintain the balance between man and nature and actively encourage as many different species of insects, birds and mammals as we can to share our space. These efforts manifest themselves in the constant planting of trees and flowers that are conducive to enticing pollinators. We also spend a great deal of time, money and effort placing and maintaining birdfeeders, bird boxes and bird baths around the perimeter of the field.

Our aim is to get people more interested in natural history and the environment. Nature is everywhere and it sometimes boggles our minds that some people are completely oblivious to it, or even worse, actively seek to destroy it!

Visit the mound garden to see what you can see and please let us know what you find. Please keep children under supervision (they like to pick the flowers!) . We have lists of trees, plants, funghi, birds and butterflies. If you are interested, please ask a member of staff and they will happily assist you in locating one of our amateur, but semi-knowledgeable nature enthusiasts.
